What is Rotary?

     Rotary is an organization of businessmen and professionals from all over the world, who provide humanitarian aid, encourage the high moral norms in all professions and help for setting up of the goodwill and peace in the world. About 1.2 million people, united in 30 thousand clubs, in 168 countries and 35 geographic areas, are members in Rotary. The membership is by an invitation and it is based on representatives of all professions. The system for classification provides wide variety of communally performance. Each Rotary club meets once per week, so that its members to advance in reaching the purposes of the club and to be glad to their partnership. The main purpose of Rotary is the service to the society, on the work place, in the whole world. Rotary organizes projects that concern the most crisis sectors the children in danger, poverty and hunger, environment, illiteracy and violence. Also it supports programs for the youth, educational opportunities and international programs for exchange of students, teachers and other specialists for their professional development. The motto of Rotary is: "In service of the society". Although the Rotary clubs develop their own programs, all Rotarian in the world are united in the campaign for the global eliminating of the poliomyelitis. In 1980 Rotary collected $240 million USD for immunization of the children worldwide. Up to the year 2005 – 100 years anniversary of Rotary – a program was provided for the total eradication and extirpation of the poliomyelitis. This program required collecting of $ 500 million. In addition, Rotary had provided volunteers for the propaganda and helping in the campaign for immunization of the kids from the different counties in the world.

    Rotary foundation of Rotary International is a non-profit corporation, which purpose is the world understanding, achieved by programs for international humanitarian service, educational and cultural exchange. It is supported only on a voluntarily basis by the Rotarians and other people, who share the vision for a better world. Since 1947 the foundation has given more than $1.1 billion USD for humanitarian and education needs, which were initiated and realized by local Rotary clubs and districts.

1.     Friendship: In this more and more complicated world Rotary satisfies one of the most essential needs of the people the need of friendship and amity. This is one of the both reasons, due to which in 1905 Rotary was established.

2.     Business development: The second prime cause for the Rotary appearance is the development of the business. Everyone needs partners. Rotary consists of representatives of all business types and professions in the society. The Rotarians help each other.

3.     Personal growth and development: The membership in Rotary continues our growth and education in the field of human relations and also our personal development.

4.     Development of leader qualities: Rotary is an organization of leaders and successful people. Our service in Rotary is like a college education. Leadership: to learn how to motivate, influence and direct the leaders.

6.     Continuation of the education: There is a worked out program each week in Rotary, from which we inform ourselves for the processes in the society, the country and the world. Each meeting gives us a possibility to hear different lectures on different actual topics.

7.     Pleasure: Rotary is a pleasure. Each meeting, each club project, community activity, service are pleasure.

8.     Skill to talk in front of audience: Many of the people, who have joined Rotary were afraid to talk in front of audience. Rotary develops confidence and a skill for communication with the audience and opportunity for practicing and improving of these skills.

9.     Citizens of the world: Each Rotarian has a badge with the text “Rotary International”. There are few places in the world without Rotary clubs. Each Rotarian is welcomed even this is encouraged in each of the 30 000 clubs in 194 countries and geographic regions. This means friendships both in its society and everywhere in the world.  

10. Help during travelling: As there are Rotary clubs everywhere, many Rotarians, who need a doctor, lawyer, hotel or advice during their travel, find assistance through Rotary.

11. Entertainments: Each club and district has activities that diversify the work daily routine of its members. Rotary held conferences, congresses, assemblies and institutions, which offer entertainments in addition to the information, education and service.

12. Development of social skills: Each week and during different events and activities Rotary develops the individuality of the members, social and personal skills. Rotary is for people, who like the people.

13. Family programs: Rotary provides one of the most large scaled programs for youth exchange in the world; clubs for future Rotarians in the high schools and colleges, opportunity for engaging of the marital partner and family in activities, assigned to support the members of the family in applying and development of the family values.

14. Professional skills: Each Rotarian is expected to participate in the growth and development of his/her profession, to serve the society, to teach the young people. Rotary helps you to become a better doctor, lawyer, teacher.

15. Ethic development: Rotary practices the Four-way test, which manages the ethical standards of the person. The Rotarians are expected to be ethical in the professional and business relations.

16. Acquainting with the cultures of the different countries: In Rotary people are united from all religions, countries, cultures, languages, races, political convictions, colour and ethnical belonging. The most eminent persons in the world are its members. The Rotarians realize their cultures and learn to love and work with the people everywhere. With this they become better citizens of their countries.

17. Prestige: The members of Rotary are eminent persons, leaders in the business, professions, art, management, sport, army, religion and all branches. Rotary clubs are the oldest and most prestigious non-profit clubs. Among the Rotary members there are directors, managers, professionals - people, who make decisions and influence the politics.

18. Good people: The Rotarians besides everything are good people the best on the Earth. They are important people, who keep to the policy It is good to be important persons, but it is important to be good”.

19. Lack of official creed”: In Rotary there is no secret handshaking, there is no secret policy or official creed, and there are no secret meetings or rituals. This is an open community of men and women, who simply believe in the necessity to help the others.

 

Possibility to serve: Rotary is a club with ideal purpose. Its care is the mankind. The Rotarians serve the society on a local and world level. This is maybe the most important reason to become Rotarian: the chance to do something for somebody else and to feel the satisfaction from this.
