HISTORICAL REFERENCE
The bases of the Rotarian movement in
Panagyurishte were laid by a group of
enthusiasts
–
Krasimir Nemigenchev,
Yasen Hristov,
Hristo Chochev and Yordan Yordanov in October
1989,
as a Preliminary Rotary Club in the Zone of
District
2480.
For three years the Rotarians from Panagyurishte
had been proving with high diligence and hard
work, that they are merited with their deeds in
favor of the society,
in order to be affirmed in the big Rotarian
family. The acknowledgement and the happiness
were not delayed for us. The Panagyurishte Club
was chartered on the
23rd
of November 2001.
The charter list was officially presented on the
18th
of
December
2001,
personally by the president of Rotary
International
–
Richard D.
King in the “Boyana” residence.
We,
the Rotarians of Panagyurishte are successors of
the first Rotarian
–
Bulgarian Subo Nikolov,
born in Panagyurishte.
Today we all
give our respect to him.
The hard work is proverbial for Subo Nikolov.
And the destiny is assigning us to be his
merited followers.
Rotary is friendship!
To give a hand!
To be philanthropic!
To go ahead!
To turn your dreams into reality!
This is only the minimum,
in order to work in service of the society.
In the series of these words,
let’s remind ourselves of a part of the Rotarian
prayer,
chiseled on the obelisk of
„Subo
Nikolov”
–
“The whole mankind to be filled with goodness,
peace and love!”.
We
address this message with
warmth and heartiness
to all,
in order to follow the example of the famous
person from Panagyurishte.
SUBO NIKOLOV
He was born in
1870 in Panagyurishte. When he was 16
years old,
he went to USA as a servant of a returning to
his motherland from Bulgaria
protestant pastor.
There he had worked in the textile factory and
studied at the same time.
After graduation of the evening
secondary school, Nikolov studied in the Vuster
technological institute.
Around 1904
he started
his own work,
and as of
1920
he was already a vice-president and senior
associate of Leland
– Giffurd company /for machine construction and
metal processing/.
In
1915
Subo Nikolov
was accepted as a member of
Rotary
club
–
Worchester,
USA. He is the first Bulgarian – Rotarian.
Devoted to the
Rotarian principles, he provided scholarships to
many young Bulgarians,
who studied abroad.
In the last will of Subo Nikolov a generous
donation was envisaged for his own town of
Panagyurishte. The
established by him foundation has been
supporting the hospital here until today.
He used any possibility,
in order to include Bulgaria in the programs of
his club and lobbing in front of other American
foundations.
Subo Nikolov died in
1959
in the USA.
At the moment RC

Panagyurishte consists of 31
members and it has an active activity in favor
of the society, which is expressed in different
directions:
2000 – 2001

Repairing and maintenance activity of cultural
sightseeing places in the town of Panagyurishte
–
repairs of the roof of the “St.
George”
church.
2001 – 2002
-
Our children protection
– “Not
to the drugs”;

Ecology;
-
Traditional supporting of the children from the
charity school “Pavel Bobekov”.
2002 -2003
-
Organizing of creative meetings and exhibitions
for the popularizing of the possibilities for
cultural tourism in Panagyurishte;
-
Organizing of a competition for manufacturing of
the monuments at the entrances of the town of
Panagyurishte,
as well as providing its financials.
2003 – 2004

Construction of the first monument around the
entering-exiting road between Panagyurishte and
Pazardzhik;
-
International youth exchange with RC – town of
Lincoln, Nebraska state
(USA);
2004 -2005
-
Raising funds on the program “Polio plus”
and vaccinating of the children, born before
1991 from the charity school “Pavel Bobekov”.

Organizing of a competition for construction of
a monument of the first Rotarian – Bulgarian
Subo Nikolov,
as well as providing its financials.
2005 -2006

Participation in the campaign for raising funds
and materials for restoration of the chapel “St.
Virgin Mary”;

with illiteracy”.
